With this work, the author renders to us those disappeared during Pinochets times, and the most general and intense dramas lived by Chile in all its history. El Mocho is about the relationship between a young boy whose father has died in the Chilean copper mines, and Don Arístides, "el Mocho", who is the coal mines watchman where most of the village works. Throughout the novel, Donoso investigates the origin of those families who came from Spain to live in Chile and who contributed to the lifestyles and values of subsequent generations.
